Applies to ballasts (excluding those of the resistance type) intended for use in switch-start circuits for the operation of hot cathode pre-heat start fluorescent lamps, on a.c. voltages at a frequency of 50 cycles per second. It is not intended to apply to ballasts for use in quick-start and instant-start circuits.
