The Standard applies to all welding screens, whether portable or permanently installed, but does not apply to screens for protection against laser radiation, nor does it apply to protective materials for direct viewing of the welding process. The main focus of the document is on optical radiation transmission. Provision is made for marking screens and curtains with categories determined in accordance with maximum and minimum luminance transmittance. Identical with NZS 5852:1991 and produced as a Joint Australian/New Zealand Standard.
