Methods of chemical and physical testing for the dairying industry, Method 2.11: Liquid milks — Determination of density and estimation of solids-not-fat (SNF) — Hydrometer method

This Standard describes a hydrometer method for determining the density of liquid milk with the fat in the liquid state and provides equations relating the known fat content and measured density to percentage of solids-not-fat (SNF) in the milk. The method is applicable to whole milk and skim milk, and to standardized and modified milks which have been adjusted by minor additions of cream, skim milk, skim milk powder and skim milk concentrate. The milks may be raw, pasteurized or homogenized.
